Commemorating Vic Kostiuk: A valued friend of the family violence sector

On behalf of our members, Board and team, DV Vic would like to commemorate Vic Kostiuk’s dedication and extraordinary contribution to those experiencing family violence during his career at Victoria Police.

DV Vic is the peak body for family violence services.  As such, we have a membership of the services in Victoria that provide a response to women and children experiencing family violence.

Vic was renowned in the family violence sector for diligently and humbly driving innovation and improved responses of Victoria Police over many years to those experiencing family violence. He was a valued and respected colleague to many in our service sector who are devastated at his passing last week.

Vic was a driving force behind the establishment of Taskforce Alexis, in partnership with Salvation Army, an initiative to strengthen the response between police and family violence services in the south east.

He was the co-Chair of the Bayside Peninsula Risk Assessment and Management Panel (RAMP) which coordinates service responses to lower the level of risk to family members who are subject to a serious and imminent threat due to family violence.

Vic was also Strategic Advisor for Family Violence, Southern Metropolitan Police Region and had recently been made Detective Senior Sergeant in charge of the Family Violence Investigation Unit at Sommerville.

Vic’s focus was always on ensuring a professional response to family violence from Victoria Police, and to working collaboratively with all sectors to make the system truly accountable to those who experience family violence.

His contribution to improved responses to those experiencing family violence cannot be underestimated.

On behalf of family violence services, DV Vic would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Vic’s wife, son and family and his police family of 40 years.
