Domestic Violence Victoria CEO Fiona McCormack has paid tribute to Fiona Richardson MP, Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, who died yesterday after a battle with breast cancer.
Minister Richardson was a fearless advocate for women and children, and had an integral role in bringing about the Royal Commission into Family violence.
As Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Ms Richardson made sure the voice of survivors of family violence was at the heart of every reform or systems development.
“On behalf of the Board and staff of Domestic Violence Victoria and the family violence sector I pay our condolences to Fiona’s family, it’s terrible and shocking news and a tragic loss.”
“Minister Richardson made an incredible contribution to Victorian politics, and in particular this state’s work in preventing and responding to family violence.”
“Today is a very sad day, but we honour and acknowledge the body of work she contributed to our cause.”
